Charles Marrero

 Charles (Chuck) Marrero joined the HENAAC Board of Directors in 1999. Among his many board duties, he is currently heading the HENAAC 20th Anniversary Conference Committee. Chuck Marrero is the former Dean of Students for the colleges of Engineering and Pharmacy at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey where he did his undergraduate and graduate study. During his tenure at Rutgers, Dean Marrero served in a variety of positions among them:

Executive Director of a federally funded science education project to prepare disadvantaged students for careers in the sciences and as a Dean of Minority Affairs and Special Programs. He has worked as a consultant for small business enterprises, diversity, public affairs, university/college relations, human resources issues and conference planning for corporations and professional organizations.

Marrero has a long history of involvement in education, WORKFORCE 2000 and diversity issues. He was a founder and advisor to the Rutgers University chapters of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE), National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE), Latino Health Organization, and Friends of 504, a physically challenged student organization.

Chuck shares a chronicle of productive activity in community and civic affairs as past Chair of the New Jersey Hispanic Task Force on Higher Education, President and Board Chairman of the Puerto Rican Health Organization of New Jersey, and President of the Rutgers University Association of Black and Hispanic Student Affairs Professionals. He is a founder of the National Hispanic Council for High Technology Careers, and presently serves on the Board of Directors for the Hispanic Engineer of the Year National Achievement Awards Corporation (HENAAC).

He is a founding member of the first chartered East Coast chapter of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) and has served on the National Board of Directors as National Secretary, National Vice President, and Regional Vice President. He was also the co-author, Principal Investigator and Project Director of SHPE Operation Transfer a grant proposal submitted to the National Science Foundation for facilitating the transfer of community college students to baccalaureate degree granting institutions.

Chuck has received numerous awards and honors including: the Rutgers University President’s Award for Excellence in Administration, the SHPE Pioneer Award, SHPE Presidents Award, National Hispanic Employees Association Diversity Affirmative Action Award, the SHPE Hispanic Engineer of the Year Award for Contributions in Higher Education, SHPE-Eastern Washington Chapter Outstanding Professional of the Year, Honorary Recruiter United States Air Force Recruiting Service, Distinguished Dean, Rutgers College of Pharmacy Student Senate. He is included in Who’s Who Among International Professionals, Who’s Who Among Executives and Professionals and Who’s Who Among Hispanic Americans.

In the corporate sector, he has served as Manager of Workforce Development and Diversity, Manager of University/College Affairs and other management positions for Westinghouse Hanford Company in Washington State. As an executive-on-loan to Columbia Basin College he was the Executive Director of the Northwest Partnership for Environmental Technology Education, an eight-state consortium of education, corporate and government officials.

Marrero also served as Division Manager for Diversity at the Kaiser-Hill Company, LLC, Human Resources Manager for CH2M HILL, at the Department of EnergyRocky Flats Environmental Technology Site in Golden, Colorado. He is presently a Human Resources Manager at LOWEHW

He resides in Superior, Colorado where he is involved in community activities that promote education, small and minority business and engineering and science opportunities. His involvement includes the Colorado Women Chamber of Commerce, the Colorado Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers & Scientists and the Denver Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
