Jose R. Silva Memorial Scholarship
The Jose Silva Memorial Scholarship was sponsored by The Raytheon Company, in memory of Mr. Jose R. Silva, who was tragically killed in a hit-and-run accident after having dedicated a 25-year career to Raytheon.
Jose was tragically killed on September 27, 2008 in a hit-and-run accident as he was leaving a football game at his beloved alma mater, Cathedral High School in Lincoln Heights, California, where he graduated with honors in 1980. Jose is survived by his lovely wife, Lupe, and son, Christopher, who at that time was shy of his tenth birthday.
After graduating from college, Jose needed a job (he still had those pesky loans), and he was hired by Hughes Aircraft Company, subsequently acquired by Raytheon Company. Jose was a finance manager at Raytheon.
Mr. Silva’s 25-year career at Raytheon was distinguished not only by promotions and increasingly responsible assignments, but more significantly by his grassroots development of several community mentoring programs for kids needing guidance and role models. Jose never forgot where he came from and regarded community service just as important as his professional activities.
Jose has left a great imprint behind. We celebrate the life of a gracious, wonderful man who touched the lives and hearts of many.
This scholarship was awarded from 2009 – 2015.
