GMiS Luminary Spotlight: Jesus Escobar of Cummins Inc.

Congratulations Jesus Escobar, Supplier Quality Manager at Cummins, Inc. and GMiS 2021 Luminary Award winner!

GMiS Luminary honorees represent professionals in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics who initiate, collaborate, and lead key programs and research within their companies. These individuals have made significant contributions to the Hispanic technical community as leaders and role models.

As we kick off our 33rd Annual GMiS Conference, Great Minds in STEM will be highlighting members of our Class of 2021 Luminary honorees, comprising of Hispanic innovators who are engineering the future while lighting the way for the next generation of STEM leaders.

Our next spotlighted Luminary of the week is Jesus Escobar, Supplier Quality Manager at Cummins Inc., who works hard to ensure that defect-free processes in plants across the company’s manufacturing operations meet or exceed customer needs.

A member of the company’s Supplier Quality Organization for over 10 years, Mr. Escobar, known to his friends and co-workers as “Chuy,” is renowned for his ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders and suppliers, as well as his innate ability to solve challenging manufacturing problems with a relentless drive.

This Supplier Quality Subject Matter Expert began his life in Ojinaga, Chihuahua, Mexico, and learned English in ESL classes after his family moved to Presidio Texas, to pursue the American Dream before he started high school.

With no language barrier in STEM subjects, Mr. Escobar excelled in Science and Math and was soon advancing to the University of Texas at El Paso on a scholarship from the College Assistance Migrant Program to earn his B.S. in Industrial Engineering.

He continued his studies at New Mexico State University where he earned his Master’s in the same subject before joining the Cummins team.

Mr. Escobar later earned an MBA at the Kelley School of Busines at Indiana University / Purdue University Indianapolis and has been extremely active in the Latino Employee Resource Group at Cummins.
