GMiS 2021 Award Winner Spotlight: Michael A. Omana of Sandia National Laboratory

GMiS Salutes Michael A. Omana of Sandia National Laboratory, recipient of the 2021 HENAAC Award for Most Promising Scientist with a Master’s Degree.

Mr. Omana’s work focuses on chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear defense protective measures used in situations where these agents may be present, including on the battlefield. Over the past year, however, he has pivoted to serve as aerosol and filtration science subject matter experts for COVID response efforts. Through 11 separate projects, he and his teams have rapidly produced personal protective equipment for frontline workers, determined the effectiveness of PPE sterilization techniques, provided independent performance testing of imported PPE, and devised field tests to determine the spread of aerosols between medical exam rooms. Mr. Omana even worked on the development of a novel respirator, something that earned him a Sandia National Laboratories Certificate of Excellence.

You can meet Mr. Omana and hear his full story at the professional awards showcase on Friday, October 22nd, during the final day of the 2021 GMiS Conference.
